Haircuts for the Homeless (The Daily Reflector)

Haircuts for the Homeless, Michael Brandon Styling, community, homeless shelter, be the change, Hair stylist, Barber, Haircuts, Haircutting,

I made the paper!!! I am really humbled and honored by the whole Haircuts for the Homeless experience. I am really grateful and touched by all of the support I have received from my community. I have met and been touched by so many amazing people throughout this journey that have inspired me and made me a better person. People like, Bob Williams at Community Crossroads and Patty Alt and Jerome Dixon. I have had some of the most incredible conversations with people from all walks of life who are willing to share a piece of themselves with me. I have genuinely enjoyed doing it and I hope that I can do it for the rest of my life. I believe in Greenville, NC and I believe it can be the source of real change. We are our brothers and sisters keepers. We have a responsibility to take care of one another. Our actions not only affect the rest of the world, they also effect us as people. I have been in the gutter. What i found there was people. Good people. Discarded by society. Looked past. Stepped over. Abused. Mistreated. Oppressed. Discriminated against. These are real people and this is a real thing. It is easy for us to define our reality based on our environment, but until you have been exposed to what other people have been through, you will not understand why their reality is so much different than yours. Our opinions and views are shaped by the small world that we have created for ourselves and the circles in which we choose to stick to. I'm not saying that someone should feel bad about having good circumstances and for managing to stay out of the gutter. I'm saying that there is a whole world out there that we may never be aware of if we don't allow ourselves to step outside of the confines that we have created. Socrates said, "True knowledge is knowing that you don't know anything." We feel very strongly about our beliefs because we know it to be true in our world, but if we are afraid to step out of our world, we will not experience the beauty that exists in so many things outside of our world. Plus, we all physically live in the same world so i hope that we can find a way to understand one another.
